Daffodils4Detroit 2018: Playground

Lake Muskoday Accessible Playground

A very special Belle Isle attraction for the 2018 Daffodil Luncheon is the new Lake Muskoday Accessible Playground. Not just any playground, it is compliant with the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Children, with or without disabilities, now have a place to enjoy nature, physical activity, and play with other children. For children, play is learning! Children with disabilities often lack the opportunity to play with others. ADA playgrounds are designed to encourage all children to play together. This benefits everyone. Children with disabilities benefit from healthy active play and new social skills. Children no disabilities experience an environment that includes people with differences. Tolerance, diversity, and acceptance are an inherent benefit. The ADA playground is just north of the Belle Isle Nature Center, on the east side of the island. A docent will be present to answer your questions. The Sigma Gamma Foundation supports Michigan children with special needs and paid for the playground equipment and installation.

Daffodil luncheon guests will have the opportunity to visit the Belle Isle Aquarium which will be opened especially for us. Closed from 2005 to 2012, the aquarium is still in the process of restoration. Stop by to check out new fish and enjoy “The Shape of Water” environment. The  Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory will also be open.
