Our luncheon speaker is Lynden B. Miller, founder of The Daffodil Project in New York City. She speaks nationally on the importance of urban gardens and The Daffodil Project inspired our Daffodils4Detroit.

After September 11, like many others, Lynden struggled for a way to deal with the tragedy. Dutch bulb grower Hans van Waardenburg offered a gift of a million daffodil bulbs to New York City in memory of the victims. Lynden sprang into action, arranging shipping and lining up over 10,000 volunteers to plant the bulbs across the city. The flowers were a huge success and The Daffodil Project was born! It is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the city’s history. Over 6.5 million bulbs have been planted in New York’s five boroughs. Today, it is a thriving public/private partnership with New Yorkers for Parks and New York City Parks.
