February Calendar of Events 2/2/12 (Thursday) -- 6 p.m. -- The Villages Neighbor to Neighbor Time Bank invites everyone to the launch of the program at the Messiah Community Empowerment Center, 1501 Canton St. 2/2/12 (Thursday) -- 6:30 p.m. -- The Detroit Waldorf School invites everyone to "Red Light, Green Light," the third lecture in its parent education series, It Takes a Village. The program will cover the topic of building attention, organization and focus for young children. 2/4/12 (Saturday) -- 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. -- Gentle, slow flow yoga class downstairs in the youth pit at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church for all ages and abilities. Seniors welcome. Mats provided. 2/4/12 (Saturday) -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- Shiver on the River at the Belle Isle Casino and around the island. The main event takes place at the Casino Building with exhibits, displays, refreshments, environmental arts and crafts for kids, live entertainment, a rain barrel demonstration, caricatures and a children's magic show. 2/5/12 (Sunday) -- 5:30 p.m. -- Historic Area Cocktail Klub (HACK) Super Bowl party. 2/6/12 (Monday) to 3/5/12 (Monday) -- 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. -- Detroit Waldorf School presents its parent/tot program at the school for children ages twelve months to three years old accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Activities include handcrafts, snack, outdoor play, creative free play, circle time and stories. 2/7/12 (Tuesday) -- 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. -- Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church Tutoring TREE program at the church. The program includes a snack, tutoring, art and gym for Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades. 2/8/12 (Wednesday) -- 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. -- Taste of Waldorf Tour at Detroit Waldorf School. The two-hour program gives participants a chance to visit classrooms and experience lessons in a variety of grades and subjects, from the nursery through eighth grade. 2/11/12 (Saturday) -- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Recycle Here will operate a mobile recycling collection station in the Detroit Waldorf School parking lot. Residents are allowed to place up to one cubic yard of bulk in front of their homes on their scheduled collection day. One cubic yard is equivalent to the size of a refrigerator, couch, or stove. A reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., a buffet dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and a presentation will be given from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
