2/1/19 (Friday) — 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites its neighbors to its community movie night at the church. The free event includes a family-friendly movie, popcorn, snacks and beverages.

2/3/19 (Sunday) — 1:30 to 4 p.m. — The Community Chorus of Detroit invites anyone who enjoys singing to an open house at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet chorus members and learn more about the group’s upcoming rehearsals, performances and tours.

2/4/19 (Monday) — 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. — Villages security meeting at Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church, covering Indian Village, West Village, Berry Sub and other Villages neighborhoods.

2/4/19 (Monday) — 7 p.m. — IVA block captains’ meeting at Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church.

2/4/19 (Monday) — 7 p.m. — IVA board meeting at Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church.

2/5/19 (Tuesday) — 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church’s Tutoring TREE program at the church. Adult volunteers work one-on-one at the church with Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades, helping them improve their math and reading skills. Snack, art and gym activities also are part of the weekly program.

2/6/19 (Wednesday) — 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. — West Village Association monthly meeting in the basement of the Metro Central Church of Christ, 1511 Van Dyke.
2/8/19 (Friday) — GFL Environmental will pick up trash, bulk waste, yard waste and recyclables.

2/9/19 (Saturday) — 10 a.m. to 12 noon — Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church invites everyone to drop off gently used clothing, shoes, towels and bedding for the church’s clothes closet, the proceeds of which are sorted and distributed to area residents. Men’s women’s and children’s clothes are needed; toiletries, including travel samples, also are welcomed.

2/10/19 (Sunday) — 11:45 a.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites its neighbors to its first Sunday Forum of 2019 at the church. The speaker will be David Head, executive director of the David L. Head Foundation and chair of the Detroit Historical Museum’s Black Historic Sites Committee. Mr. Head will discuss the ongoing contributions of his foundation in telling the story of African Americans and their role in science & technology, as well as share the history of the Detroit Historical Sites Committee and its importance in maintaining the legacy of African Americans in Detroit.
