5/1/17 (Monday) — 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. — Detroit Waldorf School presents its parent/child program at the school for children ages twelve months to three years old, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Activities include outdoor play, circle time (songs, finger play, games, nursery rhymes), snack preparation, free play, crafts and stories.

5/2/17 (Tuesday) — 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church’s Tutoring TREE program at the church. The program includes a snack, tutoring, art and gym for Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades.

5/2/17 (Tuesday) — 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites everyone to help dedicate a Peace Pole at the church with the students and families of the church’s Tutoring TREE program.

5/4/17 (Thursday) — 7 p.m. — West Village Association monthly meeting at the Metro Central Church of Christ, 1511 Van Dyke.

5/5/17 (Friday) — GFL Environmental will pick up trash, bulk waste, recyclables and yard waste.

5/7/17 (Sunday) — 4:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites everyone to its free final music series concert for the season, performed by the River Raising Ragtime Review. The ensemble will use vintage instrumentation to perform works from the turn of the century to the 1920s.

5/8/17 (Monday) — 4 p.m. — Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club’s annual May outing. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., members and guests will tour historic Elmwood Cemetery with a registered arborist and a cemetery historian. Established in 1846 and incorporated in 1849 as a non-profit corporation, Elmwood Cemetery is Michigan’s oldest continuously operating, non-denominational cemetery and Detroit’s first certified arboretum. After the tour, attendees will gather for dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Sindbad’s Restaurant, 100 St. Clair, Detroit.

5/13/17 (Saturday) — 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon — Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church invites everyone to drop off gently used clothing, shoes, towels and bedding for the church’s clothes closet, the proceeds of which are sorted and distributed to area residents. Men’s women’s and children’s clothes are needed; toiletries, including travel samples, also are welcomed.

5/20/17 (Saturday) — 6 p.m. — Detroit Waldorf School’s annual benefit auction at the school. The event includes silent and live auctions, a cash bar, dinner and entertainment.

5/23/17 (Tuesday) — 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church’s Tutoring TREE program at the church. The program includes a snack, tutoring, art and gym for Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades. Adult volunteers are needed to work with children one on one in reading and math.
