The decision  was made, by the Indian Village Home & Garden Tour Committee, to not hold a full Home & Garden Tour in 2022. Homeowners expressed concern about the Covid virus. Instead, we are planning a “fresh air” garden only tour to present a minimal risk of disease. To learn more see flier above. Tickets maybe purchased on Eventbrite by clicking on image.

We plan to have a traditional Indian Village Home & Garden Tour in June of 2023. A full list of wonderful homes has already been committed. We hope you enjoy the 2022 Garden Tour and join us for the Indian Village Home & Garden Tour in June of 2023.

The Indian Village Women’s Garden Club is dedicated to the support of the Indian Village community through conservation, horticulture and civic improvement programs.

We are committed to fostering community spirit and capitalizing on the synergy of diverse groups of people in our neighborhood.

Also known as the Indian Village Women’s Garden Club, the Indian Village branch of Woman’s National Farm and Garden Association (WNFGA) was organized in 1953. Then Indian Village neighborhood started in 1895, the substantial homes had beautiful gardens. Many gardens were professionally designed and maintained.  By the 1950’s, things had changed; most residents were doing their own gardening. The Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club was started to help us learn more about gardening, both from professional speakers and each other. Close friendships started and the club prospered.

Meetings are held in members’ homes on the second Monday of each month, except June through August. There are special activities in December and May in lieu of the monthly meeting. To accommodate our many working members, we usually meet in the evening. When the Covid pandemic struck in 2020, we changed our meeting format. Zoom meetings have been held. When weather permits, socially distanced outside meetings, in member’s gardens, have been held.

As the organization grew, new projects were added including the Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour. The Tour is now managed jointly by the Historic Indian Village Association, the Indian Village Men’s Garden Club and the Indian Village Women’s garden Club. The 2020 and 2021 Tours were cancelled because of the Covid pandemic. We hope revive the Indian Village Tour in 2022.

The Artelia Bowne Court Scholarships, supported by the December Holiday Tour, has become a major project. In June of 2020, $20,000 of scholarships were awarded to local youth. The 2020 and 2021 Holiday Tours were cancelled because of the Covid pandemic. We hope to continue  the Holiday Tour scholarship fundraiser in 2022.

We are part of Daffodils4Detroit, a project of the Michigan WNFGA, which has planted hundreds of thousand of daffodils on nearby Belle Isle State Park and around the Detroit metro area. Several Indian Village members are on the Daffodil committee and we participated in the annual Daffodil Luncheon each April, at the Detroit Yacht Club. Covid forced the cancellation of the 2020 Daffodil Luncheon. In 2021, we had a special Zoom Tour  of daffodils in Detroit as a fundraiser.  We hope to resume the live Daffodil Luncheon in 2022.

The Indian Village Centennial Garden is jointly managed  by the Indian Village Men’s Garden Club and the Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club. Plans to renovate the Garden are being made. The club also supports other activities in Indian Village including children’s events and the Tree Canopy project.
